Are you bored with your job and looking to take your career to the next level? Do you want to climb that corporate ladder and reach the top? Well, you’re in luck because today I’m going to give you some simple (and maybe slightly sarcastic) steps to help you achieve that goal! So, sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s jump into how to take your career to the next level!

Network like a pro: Who you know is just as important as what you know. Make sure to attend those awkward corporate events, happy hours, and conferences. Network like it’s going out of style! And if you’re not sure how to do that, just pretend you’re an extrovert and fake it until you make it. You got this!

Take risks: This doesn’t mean you should quit your job and hope for the best. No, no, no. Take calculated risks. Say yes to that project that’s a little outside of your comfort zone. You might surprise yourself with what you’re capable of!

Set goals: Make a list of what you want to achieve and create a plan of how to get there. Always focus on your strengths rather than weaknesses. And don’t forget to celebrate your successes along the way. Who doesn’t love a good celebration? Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) goals. If you are having trouble in setting goals, try to check resources that can help you in that area. Check CliftonStrengths here.

Seek out a mentor or a coach: Find someone who has been where you want to go and ask them to be your mentor. They can offer you advice, support, and a shoulder to cry on when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Plus, they probably have some great war stories to share over lunch. Remember, coaching can benefit your life in many ways. 80% of people who receive coaching report increased self confidence, and over 70% benefit from improved work performance, relationships, and more effective communication skills

Find your passion: Don’t just go through the motions of your job. Find something you’re passionate about and make it part of your career. Whether it’s volunteering, a side hustle, or a new project, make it part of your job. You’ll be a lot happier that way.

Be confident: Don’t be afraid to speak up and share your ideas. Just because you’re not at the top of the food chain (yet) doesn’t mean your ideas aren’t valuable. Speak up and make your voice heard. Who knows, you might just change the world! Confidence matters!

Forbes has reported that 33% of recruiters don’t even take two whole minutes to make a decision on prospective candidates. Instead, they decide during the first 90 seconds of an interview!

Be a problem-solver: Instead of just pointing out problems, come up with solutions. Think outside the box and offer alternatives.

Learn new skills: Take a class, attend a workshop, or join a group. Keep learning throughout your career. It will make you a more valuable asset to your company and a better employee overall.

Embrace change: Change is inevitable. Don’t fight it, embrace it. Be adaptable and open-minded. Who knows, that change might just be the best thing to happen to your career.
